TOPS M1 Midget Field Knife M1MGT-01
Dan Certo had asked Major Ian Humphrey, a combat veteran and prior Tactical Training Officer at West Point, to voice an opinion of the performance and testing on the M1 Midget. (These opinions are his personally, not an endorsement by the US Military).
Major Humphrey said:
“The compact knives will be the most useful to the average soldier. These knives can take the place of the larger folder that just about every soldier has on them at all times. While it may seem surprising that I would recommend the smallest knives for the average soldier, the thing to keep in mind is that each unit has its own regulations regarding blade length. A safe rule of thumb would be to keep the blade size down to about 3 inches. I have never seen a regulation that forbids a knife with a 3 inch blade.
If I had to recommend one knife in this category for an everyday carry, hard use knife, I would recommend the M1 Midget. This 3 inch blade is sturdy enough to do big knife tasks, light chopping and prying, yet is small enough to meet the regulations. I would highly recommend this knife to anyone who needs strength of a full size knife in a pocket size. The 3 inch blade proved to be very effective in cutting numerous materials and the overall size allowed me to carry it with little effort. For those who cannot realistically carry a 5 inch tactical knife on our belt everyday, the M1 Midget will be the ‘biggest little knife’ you’ll ever carry!”
